Panel Compatibility
The kit is compatible with all standard full-size solar panels sold in South Africa, including 400W to 600W panels from JA Solar, Jinko Solar, Canadian Solar, Longi Solar, Trina Solar, and TW Solar. Panel frame thickness must be between 30mm and 50mm. Panel height in portrait orientation must not exceed 2,400mm. The IBR/Kliplok hook version clamps to the ribs of IBR corrugated and Kliplok concealed-fix steel roofing without roof penetrations, making it the preferred choice for agricultural and industrial buildings.
Structural and Wind Load Compliance
The mounting system is engineered to comply with SANS 10160-3 wind uplift requirements for residential roof structures in South Africa’s wind zones 1 through 3 (covering Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Port Elizabeth) when installed with the specified L-foot or hook spacing. A structural assessment by a registered professional may be required by some local authorities. The installer is responsible for verifying that the roof structure is capable of carrying the combined dead load of panels and mounting system.
Installation
Installation should be carried out by a qualified solar installer or registered roofer. The installer must verify roof rafter positions and install L-feet or IBR hooks at the specified spacing. Rails are then attached to the bases, levelled, and solar panels clamped into position with end and mid clamps. All roof penetrations (L-foot only) must be sealed with roof silicone and flashed per the roof manufacturer’s specifications. The electrical installer is responsible for earthing/bonding of the panel frames and rail system in accordance with SANS 10142-1.
