The advantages of diesel include lower fuel consumption per kWh (approximately 30-40% more fuel-efficient than petrol generators of the same output), longer engine lifespan (typically 10,000-20,000 hours before major overhaul), lower fire risk because diesel has a higher flash point than petrol, and better performance under sustained full-load operation.

Trade-offs include a higher purchase price than equivalent petrol models, greater weight and reduced portability, and the need for professional installation for permanent setups.
